Update on the 'Death's White Hands' Kickstarter: End of the campaign, but not the end of the story.

So, the Kickstarter campaign is over, and sadly the target amount needed to make a physical copy of 'Death's White Hands' wasn't reached.  This was always a risk, and while it's disappointing for everybody who pledged and took part, we have a lot to be proud of here: in total, over £1000 was pledged to bring this book to life!  In addition, downloads of the free short stories 'The Corpseriders' and 'Mari's Dance' have continued steadily, and both remain 5 star rated on Amazon.

So, to begin with, I would just like to say a huge and sincere thank you to everybody who pledged, and everybody who has sent me complimentary messages and encouragement since the Kickstarter began.  There can be no greater compliment for an author than knowing that people want to read your work- and believe me, 'Death's White Hands' will still be published.  As to the details of when and how... well, I will keep you all updated! 😉

So, what happens now?
I am investigating other avenues for publication.  I still very much want to offer a physical copy of the book, but I also want to make sure that it is good quality and affordable, which means I'm not going to jump on to the first option that presents itself.  I am already researching some possibilities, and as soon as I have something to report, I will let you all know!  In the meantime, I am pleased to announce that I have been asked to help judge this year's Queer Sci-Fi flash fiction contest- so if you'd like to find out more, click here and take a look!  This year's theme is 'Impact', and we're excited to see what people come up with!

So again, huge thanks to you all for bringing the campaign this far- and here's to the future!  I have no doubt that great things are on the horizon.

World Book Day!

Today is World Book Day, which is one of my favourite days of the year!  It also seemed like a good time to post an update about the Kickstarter for 'Death's White Hands', and talk a little bit about what I am up to at the moment.

At present, the campaign to self-publish a physical copy of 'Death's White Hands' is 16% funded- which is amazing!  There are still 8 days left of the campaign, which may not seem like long, but I am hoping that it is long enough for the target to be reached.  Downloads of the introductory short stories have rocketed since the campaign started (and both have earned 5 star reviews on Amazon!), and it's my hope that some of the people who have tried them will come back to make pledges.

Whatever happens, though, I'd like to take this chance to thank everybody who has pitched in, whether it be with a pledge or a like or a share.  There is nothing more terrifying for a writer (or anybody, actually) than putting themselves and there work out there to be seen, and your support and well-wishes have made it all worth it.  No matter what happens, 'Death's White Hands' will end up being published- that I can promise.  It really is a matter of 'when' and 'how', rather than 'if.'

So... what else is new right now?

Other than having a stinking cold (who doesn't at the moment?), I have started work on the second novel in the 'Aegis Immemorial' series, and am currently working on a short story that will be included in an upcoming anthology!  Details of that will be released a little closer to the time, but needless to say, I'm very excited about it!  I've also been doing a lot of reading, and am planning to do some book reviews here on my blog over the next couple of months.  Despite being a horror/fantasy writer myself, I have a wide range of tastes when it comes to reading, so if you have a book you'd like me to check out and review, please drop me a note and let me know!

'Death's White Hands' - Now LIVE on Kickstarter!!

So, it's been a while since my last post, but that doesn't mean I haven't been outstandingly busy!  Today, the fruits of that labour have arrived- 'Death's White Hands' is now LIVE on Kickstarter!!

What does this mean?
If you've not used Kickstarter before, the idea is pretty simple (and cool!)  The site allows creators like me to crowdfund for their projects- or rather, I offer a project, and people can choose to back the project with money in exchange for rewards that can't be bought elsewhere.

What are the funds for?
I'm crowdfunding to raise the money to get 'Death's White Hands'- my first full-length novel- professionally printed in physical form.  This process will also involve professional copy-editing and formatting, to make sure the book is the best it possibly can be, and will allow the book to be entered into distribution streams that will make it available to book shops around the country.  That means that I will be able to pitch the book to real shops, and encourage them to put it on their shelves.

What are the Backer Rewards?
I've worked with some awesome people to put together some great backer rewards, including the mini-print set that I've posted on here before, fabric patches, and even some really exclusive hand-made items (made by me!)
Some of these are limited in number, though, so it's worth heading over to the Kickstarter page quickly to grab them!

What happens if the funding target isn't reached?
Don't worry- that won't be the end of 'Death's White Hands'!
Crowdfunding like this is 'all or nothing' , which means that if the target isn't reached, backers don't get charged anything and I, as the project creator, don't get any money (or fees.)  So for you, there's no risk in backing a project that doesn't reach it's target, other than the disappointment of not getting the book.
However, I am determined that 'Death's White Hands' WILL get released- and if we can't raise the money for a physical book, I still have plans in place to produce the e-book alone to the best of my ability.  Whatever happens, this is a story that will be told!

How do I back the project?
Head over to Kickstarter and make an account (if you don't have one already) and then select which reward you would like from the sidebar of the project.  Click on it, and Kickstarter will walk you through the rest!

If you have any other questions, please do get in touch and I will do my best to answer them!
Also, if you fancy sharing the Kickstarter, I'd greatly appreciate it- word of mouth can work wonders for projects, and will increase the chances of the target being reached!

Surprise! Here's something special for you all....

Today is the Solstice, so, from here on in the days start getting longer again and the end of the year is in sight.  2017 has been a very strange year for me, but on the whole things have been heading in the right direction, and I have been more productive as a writer in the last 12 months than I think I have been in my entire life previously.  Pretty much all of this I owe to you- the wonderful people who have supported me by reading my work, and giving me encouragement when I started to flag.

So, here is my thank you to you all: a brand new story, which you can download for free from Smashwords (and hopefully Amazon will soon follow- keep your eyes peeled for that update!).  'Mari's Dance: A Tale of Aegis Immemorial' is a dark adventure tale, following Danika Echo on her ongoing journey- though touched, perhaps, with a tiny bit of Welsh winter custom.... 😉  Click the link under the picture to be taken straight to Smashwords to get it!

But hey- we can't have an end of year post without thinking about what comes next.  Next year is going to be busy: for one thing, I'll be moving house (*groans*), but more importantly, I'll be launching 'Death's White Hands' on Kickstarter, with the intent of producing a professional quality physical copy of the book which I can then go on to sell to distributors.  All plans for the Kickstarter are more or less complete, the backer rewards are all sourced and planned.... so make sure you save a few pennies in the new year if you want to join in the fun!  After all, this will be the only time that you will have the chance to get items including limited edition art prints, and even hand-knitted clothing (made by yours truly...)

Oh, and here is a sneak peek- the finalised and full colour art prints by the brilliant Dechanique!

So, there's a lot to look forward to in the New Year- and I'll see you then.  I'll be away for a few days as of tomorrow (though I will of course update you all when 'Mari's Dance' is available on Amazon!).  I hope you all have a wonderful end of the year- and here's to 2018!!

One Month Later.... A Thank You Post!

Today I had some wonderful news: 'The Corpseriders', which was only released a month ago, has passed 100 downloads (and counting!)  It has also received two 5 star reviews on Amazon, and one 5 star review on Goodreads.com!

All I can say, is that I really cannot thank you all enough for taking the time to download, read, and review my work!  These numbers may sound small, but as a new author it is overwhelmingly amazing to think that there are e-readers, phones, and computers out there that now have my work on them, ready to be enjoyed.  This is, in many ways, all I have ever wanted since I first put pen to paper.

As a thank you to everybody who has brought me this far (which is all of you), I have a surprise: a sneak peek at the line-art of the limited mini-prints that will be available during the Kickstarter campaign for 'Death's White Hands'!  The very talented Dechanique has been hard at work on these, and while there is still work to do one them, I am sure that you will love the full colour versions once they are finished!

Also, if you would like your own copy of 'The Corpseriders', for free, you can download it at the links below, or search for it yourself on your local version of Amazon!
